I finished the outline tonight but I'm torn about whether to post the last bit. Reading a summary of an emotional climax seems kind of flat. And a 13K plot outline is really more of a half-written fic than a plot outline, so I think I'm going to give myself until the end of the year to see if I can finish the damn thing before I release any more of it into the world.

I will at least tell you that it's endgame Barry/Niall (and now I have to go back and develop that sidepair, which is a challenge when Jack's is the only POV and the keoghoran mostly develops offscreen at the Irish pub). MOSTLY I WOULD LOVE YOUR THOUGHTS on is how to distinguish this ship from Niall's relationship with all the other affable Irish bros who surround him at all times. What catches Niall’s attention about Barry in particular?

What about Connor Mc-Fucking-McGregor? Niall on principle has taken a position of keeping Jacks friends at a wary distance but some night they're all in the bar and a McGregor fight's on in the background & there's intense laddy commentary about it that somehow ends up in a detailed analysis of McGregor's physique interspersed with long silences when they both drink deep from their pints and gaze at his sweat-gleaming, tattooed lean muscles and somehow they start to wonder aloud what he's like when he fucks and it ends up with them both getting so riled up & horney they end up together in a toilet cubicle.
And that would be that except the next time they meet its after everyone realizes what a racist homophobic dickhead McGregor is and they have to buy each other consolation pints and that ends up with them back in the toilet cubicle.
And then maybe Niall suggests there's more hygienic venues for doing this and off they go - on their sports loving, pint drinking, friend supporting, patriotic, merry way ...

haha WOW i love this anon suggestion. barry obviously looooooooves mcgregor and i could... totally see them getting all hot and bothered watching a fight lol. i'm also laughing at niall suggesting more hygienic venues.

honestly if you want to make it as canon as possible... i think barry has an enormous, obvious crush on niall. actually i wouldn't even call it a crush. barry sees niall performing at open mic night, or laughing with his head thrown back at a friend's joke, or confidently wearing a stupid hat (take your pick) and he immediately latches onto niall. tells everyone "that's the man i'm going to marry" with zero hint of humor. eventually niall notices barry's intense staring and the way barry always butts his way into niall's conversations or tags him in weird instagram posts that have nothing to do with him. when niall agrees to their first date, barry shows him the real estate properties he's been scouting out for their starter home. "oh, i want to get a rescue dog, so if you're allergic tell me now so we can get you one of those shots to keep you from sneezing all day." "maybe we should start with the dessert menu?" niall suggests.

endgame Barry/Niall? wherrrrrre did that come from?? it's funny how you can start a story in one place and end up somewhere else. (what about Harry and the baby and Jack? i'm gonna choose to believe they all have an hea. if not, please don't tell me 😆 )
