big bang and larries discussion thread
Oct. 25th, 2017 01:41 pmJes's anon about thetomlinsondaily was related to a point that I have wrestled with. I have been given to understand that as someone who does not support larrie conspiracy theories I should not be reblogging from thetomlinsondaily or dailyniall. But I feel that providing neutral update content is exactly the kind of behavior we should be encouraging from larries, and I don't think that boycotting serves that end.
I get that there's an argument that "oh, they crop eleanor out of photos and ignore freddie" but I don't expect any blog to provide all content that is possibly relevant to their topic area. If your focus is Louis and so you crop photos to only show him, or you're not interested in his kid, FINE BY ME. I will get uncropped photos elsewhere if I want them, and i will personally reblog ones that haven't eliminated El. People crop photos to just the boys all the time -- I don't see much difference between cropping a fan out of a fan pic, cropping nick or ben or jeff out of photos with harry, or cropping El out of a photo with Louis.
I am of the apparently not widely held opinion that it is possible to believe in larrie in the quiet confines of your heart but also comport yourself in a manner that does not break the fourth wall, spread negativity to or about H or L or their loved ones, or encourage others to do the same. And as long as somebody's fandom behavior is aboveboard, I'm not inclined to kick them off my personal island because they quietly hold beliefs that I don't personally agree with.
SO IN LIGHT OF ALL OF THAT i am trying to figure out why i feel differently about the big bang mods than I do about the mods of update sites. I think it's that if somebody's promoting fic, and they have a significant platform to do that, I want to be damn sure they understand the difference between fact and fiction. I would be deeply uncomfortable with any of my own fic being mistaken for reality, and I am 100 percent creeped out whenever i accidentally stumble upon larry fic that can't tell the difference. SO I think that don't actually care whether or not the big bang mods believe larry is real? I care that they didn't fulfill their platform's obligation to distinguish very clearly between fact and fiction (the conspiracy theories that surround larry) when directly asked about it.
They're reportedly going to be coming out with a more thoughtful statement sometime before the signup deadline (per their response to another concerned citizen who passed it along to me) so i'll be interested to see how they think this through. ANYWAY IN THE MEANTIME PLEASE TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS FASCINATING AND DIFFICULT TOPIC
